Nattüra

A toothpaste tablet twenty times better than fluoride alone.

Nattüra, dubbed “skincare for teeth”, offers 24-hour protection by creating a bio-shield that stays on your enamel long after you stop brushing. Most toothpastes wash away in minutes, leaving your teeth exposed to everything you eat and drink throughout the day.

Twenty times better protection against tooth decay

Nattüra was invented by Dr Florence Mai whilst studying dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. Dr Mai discovered that combining γ-PGA (gamma-poly-glutamate) with fluoride provides twenty times better protection against tooth decay than relying on fluoride alone.

γ-PGA is used in premium skincare for its hydrating qualities. The natural peptide can hold up to five thousand times its weight in water, making it an ideal moisturiser.

γ-PGA is already on the INCI register for safe-to-use cosmetic ingredients and can be cheaply and sustainably manufactured from food biproducts.

Delivering the formulation as a tablet rather than a paste means you use the exact dentist-recommended dose of active ingredients every time.

It also brings environmental benefits. Most toothpastes rely on a binding agent called polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to hold it together. PVP is a synthetic polymer made from crude oil which won’t biodegrade. Unideal when you spit it straight into the water system. The tubes tend not to be biodegradable either. In Britian we discard 300 million a year, enough to circle the globe twice.

Nattüra does not rely on PVP, nor do they need a plastic tube, which means all Nattüra’s ingredients and packaging are biodegradable by design.

Award winning innovation

Dr Mai won the Junior Colgate Research Prize 2023 and the Royal College of Surgeons FDS Undergraduate Award 2024 for her invention, and Queen Mary’s Qincubator entrepreneurship prize 2025. Queen Mary Innovation, Queen Mary’s technology transfer company, gave business advice, patenting support, and grant funding to help bring Nattüra from lab to market.

Nattüra toothpaste tablets will be available to purchase this autumn, with a waitlist already open at getnattura.com.
