An accurate first-line triage tool is one of the most important unmet needs in modern healthcare.

250 million people live with coronary artery disease across the USA, Europe, and Asia, the vast majority unaware.

The problem is diagnosis, not treatment. Today’s pathway is slow, expensive, and hospital-dependent, built around specialist equipment that only a fraction of the world’s population can easily access.

65% of cardiac imaging referrals in the UK turn out to be unnecessary. This inefficiency means patients who need urgent care wait months in the same queue as those who don’t. A fast, accurate, and accessible first-line triage tool is one of the most important unmet needs in modern healthcare and is what Nilocas AI was built to provide.

 

Nilocas AI can detect coronary artery disease in fifteen minutes.

Nilocas AI is the outcome of more than fifteen years of cardiovascular research at Queen Mary University of London, led by Prof Steve Greenwald and funded by Queen Mary, EPSRC, and Horizon Europe.

Nilocas AI uses a chest patch to capture the sounds and skin vibrations made by blood flow. Any narrowing or blockage within the arteries will cause turbulence, creating different sounds and vibrations. The machine learning algorithm analyses this data to determine the likelihood of coronary artery disease.

Sustained, multi-institutional investment in the underlying science has produced significant technology advancements which directly inform every aspect of how Nilocas AI is designed and how it performs. The result is a proprietary multi-modal sensor system combined with an AI platform to deliver a cardiac risk assessment in fifteen minutes, at the point of care, without radiation, and operable by a nurse or GP, without hospital admission.

Nilocas AI is opening a £4m seed round to bring its non-invasive coronary artery disease (CAD) detection device to outpatient clinics and primary care.

Cardiac diagnostics is a $12 billion global market, and the addressable opportunity for a point-of-care triage device, sitting between an inconclusive ECG and expensive hospital imaging, represents a $3 billion serviceable market.

The USA, India, and the UK together represent three of the highest-burden cardiovascular markets in the world. All three are structurally underserved at the point of first clinical contact.

Nilocas AI’s business model is designed around three revenue streams: The device itself, the software to run it, and the data it captures, which can be used to advance further research into new treatments.
